Families are celebrating tonight after 300 Marines and Sailors returned home to Camp Lejeune. The group with the 2nd Battalion, 9th Marines spent their tour deployed to Al Anbar Province in Iraq. Loved ones could hardly wait to finally give them a big hug and kiss. While in Iraq, the Marines focused on counter insurgency operations by helping local police watch over their own cities. The Marines say their hard work is finally paying off.
"They don't even recognize it's the same city that they were in two or three years ago. It's dramatically improved,” Captain Brian O’Shea, Commanding Officer of Echo 2/9, said.
700 additional Marines and Sailors from the 2nd Battalion, 9th Marines will return throughout the rest of the week.
