A group that hoped to make Bear Grass High School a charter school is out of luck for now.
The proposal before the state Board of Education placed Bear Grass at number four. It needed to place in the top three to move forward.
Phil Hodges, a leader with the anti-consolidation movement, said he's very discouraged but the group isn't going away and will now have to plan it's next move.
The school board in Martin County voted to close Bear Grass last year and merge it with another high school.
It will remain open for the upcoming school year.
