Regardless of whether education funding is high or low, it doesn't guarantee that children will stay in school.
In fact, every year hundreds of high school students call it quits.
That only spells more trouble down the road.
Students who drop out are less likely to get good jobs and more likely to wind up in prison.
Pitt County is pushing back against the problem.
The new logo for the Pitt County Schools Drop Out Prevention Campaign is designed by high school students for high school students with a simple message of encouragement.
Yes you can finish the race.
Chena Cayton with Pitt County Schools worked with the students that helped design the logo.
The finalized version was unveiled Friday to elected officials, school administrators and business owners.
Now that the logo will be popping up throughout the county, the hope is that more people will step up and help solve the problem of students dropping out by getting involved.
Pitt County Schools says there are a number of reasons like academics, attendance, some even say they just need a job to support their family but while the reasons for leaving may differ, what brings many back is often the same and that someone like a teacher reaching out and encouraging them to reach their full potential.
Superintendent Beverly Reep says they are going to look into the specific reasons why students choose to call it quits but says this is not a fight they can without everyone help.
