Carteret Co. H1N1 vaccine clinic begins

The Carteret County Health Department is offering the H1N1 vaccine for high risk groups beginning Tuesday.

The Carteret County Health Department is offering the H1N1 vaccine for high risk groups beginning Tuesday.
The vaccine will be offered to eligible persons on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Both the shot and nasal spray form of the vaccine will be available.
In addition, the H1N1 vaccine clinic continues for children who need to receive their second dose of H1N1 vaccine. Children under the age of ten receive two doses of H1N1 vaccine, spaced at least 28 days apart. Family members accompanying these children who are in a target group can also receive the vaccine. That clinic will be held on Fridays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The five target groups consists of pregnant women, parents and caregivers of infants under six months of age, healthcare and emergency medical services workers, children and young adults from the age of six months to 24 years of age, and adults 25 to 64 with chronic medical condition.
Health officials recommend that everyone use good health habits. Wash hands frequently with soap and water or use hand sanitizer; cough and sneeze into a tissue or into your elbow or sleeve; eat a well balanced diet; and get adequate rest. If you become sick with flu-like symptoms, stay home from work or school and do not return until your fever has gone away for at least 24 hours.
