CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. (AP) - North Carolina-based Marines are returning from a seven-month deployment that sent them to seven countries and included use of the MV-22B Osprey in Afghanistan.
About 2,200 Marines from the 22nd Marine Expeditionary stationed at Camp Lejeune will start returning on Wednesday. The unit left in May and over the last seven months conducted training in Greece, Bulgaria, Egypt and Kuwait.
The unit was the first Marine Expeditionary Unit to deploy with the MV-22B Osprey, a plane that can take off and land like a helicopter. It arrived in Afghanistan in November.
