New Bern Police say they arrested a man Wednesday afternoon for hitting a parked car downtown and then driving recklessly through the city.
It happened just after 2PM on Craven Street.
That's when witnesses say a hit and run happened in front of City Hall. They say a white Ford Expedtion hit a parked Ford F-150 truck and then drove away. Witnesses told responding officers that the suspect's car had a cracked passenger side window and broken side-view mirror.
Emergency communications for New Bern reported a call about a reckless driver near Miller and Bay streets, also driving a white Expedition, just twenty minutes prior.
Authorities say New Bern 911 later received calls from people riding with the suspect and that they were able to stop the driver at a Food Lion on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.
Officers say 21 year old Travis Deon Sconyers fought and kicked as they attempted to handcuff him.
He was taken from the vehicle, arrested, and charged with Hit and Run, Driving without a License and Resist/Obstruct and Delay.
Sconyers is in the Craven County Jail under a $5,000 bond.
