Crews tackled the snow moving mess on Thursday as they worked to get 15 inches of snow off highways, streets and sidewalks.
In town, road crews were able to make more progress on residential streets. Most cities are reporting they've cleared most streets and from this point on, it'll be a matter of cleaning up intersections and scraping the main roads from snow packed to pavement.
Cities are also reminding homeowners to clear their sidewalks and clean around fire hydrants.
Rural Drift Battle
Outside the cities, work is continuing on the rural roads. Some roads received their first plow on Thursday, others needed touched up after snowdrifts closed roads already plowed.
County road crews are pulling long hours to try to clear out the roads.
Forecasters said winds will start diminishing across Iowa on Thursday afternoon, helping with the effort.

The county is using plows, dump trucks and maintainers to clear the roads, including a new snow machine monster. The machine is basically a huge snow blower that can tackle an 8-foot drift and throw it 200 yards.
