GOVERNMENT CAMP, Ore. (AP) - Bad weather and avalanche danger have led rescuers to all but rule out a ground search for two missing climbers on Mount Hood.
Detective Jim Strovink says rescuers are hoping for a break in the weather by midday Monday to see if they can conduct an air search. He says it's possible that a helicopter will be able to lower a rescuer by rope to inspect the search area.
He says the avalanche danger has increased since Sunday, when it prevented searchers on foot from going up the more-than 11,000-foot mountain. The forecast calls for a foot or more of snow Monday night.
A helicopter and airplane searched Sunday, and authorities will examine photos taken from the aircraft Monday.
Three climbers in all went up the mountain Friday. The body of one was found Saturday.
