A census bureau in Rocky Mount kicked off it's grand opening today. That office will employ nearly 1,700 people.
The bureau will bring temporary jobs to the area, which has one of the highest unemployement rates in the state.

In Rocky Mount, the office will employ nearly 1,700 people and will cover 17 counties.
The pay is 8 to 14 dollars per hour.
The bureau will start hiring in January and the work will end in June or July.
The jobs come as a welcome to relief to some in Rocky Mount.
In October, unemployment in the area stood at 13.7 percent.
Edgecombe County has the second highest unemployment rate in the state at 17 percent.
And Nash County has a rate of 11.8 eight percent.
The state average is 11 percent.
The bureau's grand opening brought political figures, census employees and people looking for jobs.
