Still two weeks to go before the Pirates take on the Razorbacks in the Liberty Bowl and already preparations are in full swing.
Only two weeks to go before the Pirates take on the Razorbacks in the Liberty Bowl and already preparations are in full swing. And a number of Pirate organizations are working to make sure there will be plenty of purple and gold in Memphis. If you haven't made your plans yet there are plenty of tickets available.
In Pirate Country it's clear the bowl game is on everybody's mind.
Assistant Athletic Director for Marketing and Ticket Operations says, "We're real encouraged with it. It's been a tough economy and we're going to the same bowl for second time. So we've gotten a good response and excited about that."
Wetherbee says so far they've sold about 4500 tickets but plenty are still available for $50.00 a piece.
He says, "One, you can make plans on your own, you can come through us to buy the tickets and we're going to seat all the students together, the other option is student affairs on campus was going to do two buses and it was so popular and they added a third bus and they're still finishing filling up that bus."
Pirate Club Executive Director Mark Wharton says they'll be filling up buses too, taking about 180 fans to Memphis.
Wharton says, "We need as many fans as possible. It’s important for the kids."
And there is plenty to do before and on game day. Wharton says, "January one we have a “Party on Beale Street” which is at Rum Boogey café, four restaurants and bands it starts when the parade comes down a lot of Razorback fans and our band and Arkansas band is going to be there. Goes from 3 to midnight."
Wharton says Arkansas has sold about 21,000 tickets and he hopes ECU picks up the pace to support the team.
If you can't go to the game, but want to donate so a student can go, just contact the ECU Athletic Ticket office. You can get tickets Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday of next week. For more on how to get tickets, go to our home page and use the key words: “Go Pirates”.
