An intense winter storm system will be departing leaving its impressive mark on the eastern U.S. In its wake, expect brisk, cold and dry conditions Sunday night. Be alert: icy puddles will be possible in some areas Sunday night - especially west of Raleigh if you have travel plans in the western part of our state into early Monday.

At times, the highway is completely open, but be alert for scattered overwash points and closings on the Outer Banks (especially around high tide times like late Saturday evening and midday Sunday). Also, travelers to western North Carolina and central / western Virginia should expect snow and / or ice-covered roads. CLICK HERE for North Carolina road conditions and traffic cameras.
