NEW YORK (AP) - The economy is the year's top news story.
An Associated Press annual poll of editors and news directors picked the top 10 stories of the year. And the struggling economy and millions of jobless and distraught Americans received 61 out of 117 votes to make it the No. 1 story of the year.
No. 2 was the inauguration of Barack Obama -- the first black president of the United States. And the third top story -- the ongoing debate in Congress over health care legislation.
This is the first year the poll let the general public have its say, and there was a difference of opinion.
In the poll conducted on Facebook, Barack Obama's inauguration was the No. 1 story, and the economy was second. The No. 3 top story was the death of Michael Jackson.
