An Efland woman may have been distracted when she drove onto railroad tracks December 22, in the path of a passenger train.
Trooper said Wednesday that 26-year old Erin Lindsay-Calkins was talking on her cell phone when she went under the railroad crossing gate. Moments later an Amtrak train collided with her car, killing Lindsay-Calkins and her 5-year-old son Nicholas instantly.
Her 4-month-old baby Avan survived the accident and is back home.
Troopers also checked into reports that the crossing bar may have malfunctioned, but they determined the gates were working properly that day.
