More students are applying for financial aid for college. Officials say applications for financial aid jumped 30 percent last year; they say the weak economy has students looking for aid to make ends meet. The state is expected to offer nearly $300 million in need-based aid this year. Financial aid professionals are volunteering to help students and parents fill out FAFSA forms for aid this weekend.
