Some schools in the east are getting help to preserve their history. Lowe's Home Improvement awarded $1 million to the National Trust for Historic Preservation to restore 15 Rosenwald schools, two here in the east. Officials will repair the Alligator Rosenwald School in Columbia to use as a community center. And in Snow Hill, they're adding an adult literacy center to the Greene County Training Center, which now serves as a textile factory. Julius Rosenwald and Booker T Washington created the rural school building program in 1912 but many of the schools closed after the Brown vs Board of Education decision.
