Staying at the head of the class is hard enough for most kids.
But for kids with behavioral and concentration problems it’s not about being at the head of the class it’s about just finishing the school year.
One new center which opened Friday is looking to bridge the gap.
ACES or Adolescent & Child Treatment Facilities, Inc. is a center for children and adolescents who need help beyond conventional classes; students are offered curriculum based services and therapy services to treat disorders.
The center also provides substance abuse intensive outpatient treatment.
Based in Greenville, children with disorders are referred from one of nine school districts in the east.
Director Maggie Dunn said, “We're able to bridge the gap between their mental health and their education where they're actually able to learn."
Joe Cray tells Nine On Your Side, the mental health facility is also seeking a license to eventually become a private school.
