Deadline for State Internship applications drawing near

If you’re planning on apply to any one of the 100 paid state government internships for summer ’09, you better hurry, time is running out.

The deadline for the State Government Internship Program is coming up on Jan. 21, 2009.

The program is open to students attending a college, university, technical institute, or community college and offers real-world experience in a wide range of state government workplaces.

Students participating in the internships earn a stipend of $8.25 and hour for 40 hours a week during the summer. They can also look forward to seminars, tours, and other activites.

More than 3,300 students have participated since the program was established in 1969.

So what do you need to qualify?
--Be an NC resident
--2.5 GPA or better on 4.0 scale
--Must have completed high school and at least one year of college

To qualify for a position designated for law interns, a student must have completed at least one year of law school.

Details about the program and a listing of summer 2009 internships are available by calling the Youth Advocacy and Involvement Office in the N.C. Department of Administration at 919-789-5880, or by visiting its website at http://www.doa.nc.gov/yaio/intern.htm.

Information also is available in campus career services or cooperative education offices.
