The party has already begun.
Today, in Washington D.C., there was dancing in the streets, as workers put the finishing touches on an event that should draw millions and cost millions too.
Voices rose up from under the gaze of Abraham Lincoln Sunday and the about 300,000 people that gathered on the national mall couldn't help but join in.
"This is the start of a new dawn for our country. It's a very exciting time," said Torry Clark from Virginia.
Beyonce and a host of other stars lead the concert to kick off an historic inauguration week in Washington.
"Dr. King had a dream. On Tuesday, that dream comes to pass," said singer Bono.
The man who will fulfill that dream was the headlining speaker.
"There is no obstacle that can stand in the way of millions of voices calling for change," said President-elect Barack Obama.
"When Barack and Joe Biden walked out I felt so overwhelmed with emotion, it was so awesome just being here. The energy of the people around here - nothing but love," said Lori Boone of Alabama.
The folks who came to Sunday's concert represent just a fraction of those expected here in the coming days.
As many as 3 million could flood the city for the swearing in and inaugural parade.
"If people come together as Americans I think we can do anything and we'll certainly overcome the economic problems we have in America today," said Jeffery Canada of New York.
The problem solving begins Wednesday morning. For now, the celebration in the nation’s capital is just getting started.
