WASHINGTON (AP) - House Republican leader John Boehner (BAY'-nur) is renewing his call today to stimulate the economy through tax cuts instead of spending.
Congressional Republicans are at odds with President Barack Obama and congressional Democrats over plans to stimulate the economy.
In the GOP's first weekly radio address since Obama took office, Boehner criticizes a Democratic proposal that includes $550 billion in new spending. The Ohio congressman says the country can't dig itself out of a recession by borrowing and spending. He argues that tax breaks will be "fast-acting" in contrast to what he calls "slow-moving government spending programs."
Obama met with congressional leaders yesterday to hear their ideas on the economy.
