How are construction plans for one highway in the east going?
It's the reason local and state officials met this afternoon to discuss projects along the Highway 17 corridor.
The Highway 17 Association gathered in New Bern to talk about progress on the bypass, financial concerns and plans on completion dates.
The seven bypass projects in the east cost nearly 1.2 billion dollars.
Road officials say the goal is to create a four-lane highway that goes from Virginia to South Carolina.
They say it will improve mobility and safety.
Newly appointed State Secretary of Transportation, Eugene Conti Jr. was the keynote speaker.
