In our Viewer’s Voice, we sometimes get complaints that we don't cover important stories.
Well this time, we got a complaint we only covered on side of a story.
We looked at a plan by state lawmakers to ban smoking in restaurants. We did a couple of stories on it and we got this from Jessica Fry who says she is a non-smoker but disagrees with a ban.
She writes, “I usually find (your) subject matter explores more than one side of any issue. However, that was not the case during last night's segment on the proposed smoking ban. Almost every person interviewed was a smoker that had a positive opinion about banning smoking in public places.”
Well Ms. Fry, We did a story at six with people who disagreed with the ban, but you are correct at 11 we did have a story with only one point of view. And we apologize.
And Brian Daniels was upset with a programming decision, “Are you kidding me? You pre-empt the Florida-Vanderbilt basketball game for a Pat Robertson infomercial?! Is this the kind of coverage I can look forward to once the tournament starts? Unbelievable.”
Brian, we had a contractual agreement with the 700 Club to run that program that day. We will indeed have the C.B.S. games during the tournament.
And finally, April Fitchett wrote, “I am very disappointed that WNCT chose to pre-empt The Doctors on Monday, January 26th for the show on "the vagina". You have got to be kidding me? My female roommate and I had everything set to watch that show and be informed. Again, we are very disappointed.”
Well, I did some checking on this and we did not exempt that program. The syndicator promoted a show on the vagina, but the shows they sent to us were not on that subject.
We are trying to figure out if they decided to change it or if it was a promotions mistake on their part.
Thanks to all of you who sent us your Viewer’s Voice.
