A permit to extend mining operations means that PCS Phosphate is returning 12 employees to their normal positions. They were reassigned to other positions at the facility for almost 3 months. Another 18 contractor positions will be reinstated while 75 new contractor positions will be filled.
“We are particularly pleased to make this announcement today,” said Steve Beckel, general manager of the PCS Phosphate-Aurora facility. “With our permits in-hand, we can now add to what is already a tremendous workforce here at Aurora.”
Permit delays had idled many of the project activities related to the positions.
“PCS Phosphate has been a good neighbor and particularly vital cog in the region’s economy,” Congressman G. K. Butterfield said. “It is encouraging to see them continue to thrive and move forward.” The Aurora facility resides in Butterfield’s congressional district.
The recently concluded permitting process took more than eight years. PCS Phospate can now extend its mining operations in Aurora until 2045.
