Marine Corps Working to Keep Servicemembers Safe on Motorcycles

It's a sobering statistic -- more Marines died in motorcycle crashes last year than died fighting in Iraq.

So the Marine Corps is continuing to educate service men and women about how to stay safe on the road.

Camp Lejeune hosted a motorsports safety fair Thursday.

The event featured vendors and a lot of educational information on how to ride safely.

It was all free and organizers say they have a simple -- but serious -- goal.

“It's a hard pill to swallow to take a Marine to combat, bring him home and something happens on his motorcycle and he's gone,” said Ray How with Cape Fox Professional Services. “That just makes no sense. So the purpose is to get the Marines the training they need so that they come home every night.”

The event also featured several professional motocross riders and an educational movie called “Semper Ride.”
