Pitt County school administrators tell Nine On Your Side they're waiting on financial news from the state Department of Public Instruction. The district needs to find out whether the money that pays for the campus officers and other programs will be cut. Spokeswoman Heather Mayo says four officers would be lost without the money; three of them within the county and one in Greenville. Other programs would suffer as well. Mayo says the people who could be impacted have been notified.
Mayo says, "It's one of those things where we don't want to lose any type of resources in our districts; from teachers, to school resource officers, to instructional supply allotments. But, at the end of the day this is completely driven by the state budget and right now we're just waiting to learn what that final outcome is going to be."
Farmville Middle School, Hope Middle School, Ayden Middle School, E.B. Aycock Middle School and C.M. Eppes Middle School would be affected by these changes.
