Deciding what to do with millions of dollars in tobacco money topped the agenda at Lenoir Community College Monday night.
This year, Lenoir County is set to receive $2 million from the Golden Leaf Foundation.
The money comes from the 1998 master settlement agreement with Big Tobacco.
The non-profit foundation hands out grants to support communities that depended on tobacco and are now economically distressed.
Monday night's meeting gave people the chance to find out about the grants.
They go to governments, educational institutions and non profit agencies to boost local economies.
"If nothing else, it will bring us together as a community, as leaders, helping us focus our attention on where those real problems, real issues are, and trying to put the money to meet those needs," said Lenoir County Commissioner George Graham.
Golden Leaf has funded more than 800 grants worth more than $383 million.
