Ride of Silence: Remembering cyclists

Cyclists in the 10-mile event crossed intersections where cyclists have died

The DMV estimates 20 people die on our state roads while riding bicycles each year.
In Greenville, dozens of cyclists hit the streets on Wednesday for a “Ride of Silence”.
It was a group effort to remember those who have died or been injured on bicycles.
Organizers say more people need to understand bike riders have rights when it comes to the rules of the road.
"They treat us as just an accessory to the road instead of an actual vehicle,” said East Cycling EC Velo Cycling Club president Christy Deardorff. “And I think that having that on the DMV test--that educates our youth in the beginning to be drivers on the road."
In addition, cyclist in the 10-mile event strategically traveled across intersections where runners and cyclists have died or been injured.
