New Bern Police tell Nine On Your Side that they arrested a man yesterday for purposely running into his wife’s car as she drove down Highway 17 South early Sunday morning.
27 year old John Alvis Stewart was arrested and charged with Assault with a Deadly Weapon and Hit and Run.
Stewart's wife says she was out of the house late Saturday night into early Sunday morning and when she got home her husband was not at the residence. After she went out to look for him, she was drving near Moore’s BBQ restaurant when her husband drove up unexpectedly, crashed into her vehicle and then left the scene. She returned home and found her husband leaving the residence.
He later returned home and New Bern officers took him into custody.
Stewart is in the Craven County jail under a $10,000 bond.
