CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) - Gov. Beverly Perdue has released a plan to complete the outer loop around North Carolina's largest city.
Perdue was in Charlotte on Monday to announce the construction and finance plan to complete the last segment of Interstate 485 around the northeast side of the city by 2015. The loop was supposed to be finished six years ago.
Perdue's office said the state could save money because contractors would be allowed to design and build the road and put up some of the financing.
The governor also said an interchange connecting the loop to Interstate 85 and a road widening project for I-85 into Cabarrus County will be priorities.
