Officials in Jacksonville say more than 6 inches of rain led to overflows in the city's wastewater system.

In fact, a manhole cover blew off near the Bell Fork Road and Hargett Street intersection from the pressure in the sewer lines. The 75 pound cover was found about 40 yards away. Utilities officials say about 2,000 gallongs of wastewater flowed out of the manhole during the spill.

Minor spills also happened at the Henderson Drive lift station where less than 500 gallons flowed into Mill Creek from Midnight Wednesday to 8:30 AM Thursday.

City crews worked to contain the overflows as they notified state officials, who helped to minimize the impact.
