The rain is finally starting to taper off. But were not out of the woods just yet.
The weather has left a mark on neighborhoods in Newport.
You have two things that are causing problems for some people down east. Obviously the amount of rain has backed up in some areas and is causing flooding.
The other is the wind. It pushes the rain and river water flooding the property.
Driving around the area today, many of the roadways were clear with a lot of front yards were soaked.
"Iit's actually a pretty stong current," said Tara Li. She’s not at the beach or a river. She's in her front yard. "The rain has taken over our property."
Li lives off Highway 101 close to the Intracoastal Waterway. Thanks to some drainage issues and the fact that her house sits in a low lying area, she now has what she calls, “lake front property”.
"I mean, it has to raise the property value right? I mean we have a nice lake in the front," joked Li.
It's not just the front. The side and back of her property is covered.
"It goes a little deeper over here," she said in water more than ankle deep.
Despite the soggy start to her day, Li is able to laugh it off.
"Its funny,” she laughed, “We havn't lost anything in the house. We don't have any water damage that i've noticed yet."
But if it's outside, it requires a quick swim to get to.
She just hopes the water level stops rising before it drowns out the rest of her week.
Li says she and her roomates make jokes about getting a boat and going fishing.
But she was lucky the water stayed in the yard and out of the house.
While its hard to believe that the wind we had today could cause problems like this, the Northeast wind is acutally pushing water back up into the sounds, causing some of these smaller rivers to flood.
