One of the hardest hit areas from the storm is Dare County where a Coastal Flood Warning and High Wind Warning remains in effect.
A Coastal Flood Warning means flooding is occurring or imminent. Take appropriate action to protect life and property.
The strongest winds are expected to affect the Northern Outer Banks through this afternoon. NE winds of 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 40 mph are expected.
Rough surf conditions and breakers up to 8 to 10 feet are generating high surf and dangerous rip currents.
Drivers should be on the lookout for high waves and possible ocean overwash flooding local roads.
Highway 12 near Tuckahoe Drive in the Town of Duck is experiencing flooding at this time. US 158 at Cay Trail, Beacon Drive and West Kitty Hawk Road are temporarily closed due to heavy rains.
In Kitty Hawk, heavy rains are causing periods of temporary closure on US158 at Cay Trail, US 158 at Beacon Drive and West Kitty Hawk Road.
Highway 12 is open south of the Oregon Inlet Bridge. The road is reduced to one lane though in portions through the Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge to Rodanthe.

After hours activities for today at the Dare County Center have been cancelled. The Fitness Room will close at 5:00 p.m. today, and is expected to reopen at 8:30am Friday, November 13, 2009.
