As Storm Team 9 promised some areas in the east are getting up to an inch of rain an hour---but in Onslow County people have yet to pump the brakes.
Rain from the remnants of Tropical Storm Ida is pretty much in line with what meteorologists forecast but it still caught some drivers off guard.
According to Onslow County Emergency Management southwest Onslow County was hit the hardest officials shut down a portion of Old Maple Hurst Road on Wednesday afternoon because more than a foot off water was standing across the road.
There were also a number of drainage problems on back roads off Highway 53 going toward Burgaw.
Emergency Management Director Norman Bryson says fortunately fewer people were on the roads because of Veterans Day; but the big question still is what about Thursday morning when people start heading back to work? Bryson says only time will tell what extra steps they'll have to take. Currently, they're urging people to avoid driving at night when they can, and adjust their speed to current road conditions.
