Pockets of flooding and road issues / closures are / have been scattered across eastern North Carolina this Thursday. These include, but may not be limited to:
BEAUFORT COUNTY
Significant roadway ponding is ongoing county-wide.
CARTERET COUNTY
Numerous roads have been flooded or impassable across western Carteret County including Bucks Corner Rd. near Highway 58, W. Firetower Rd. near Highway 58, Old Church Rd. near Highway 58 and Weatherington Rd. near White Oak Bluff. Carteret County's Tom Mann, Lincoln, Jefferson, and Washington Roads are also experiencing pockets of flooding.
CRAVEN COUNTY
NCDOT has closed Lake Road outside of the Havelock city limits (at Slaughter Road) due to water across the road. There is no word on how long the road may remain closed. Residents returning home this evening may experience difficulty and need to adjust their commutes to avoid the area.
DARE COUNTY
Right now, N.C. 12 on the Outer Banks is closed north of Rodanthe due to ocean overwash. It will be closed intermittently today and into Thursday morning as conditions warrant. Ferry runs at Cherry Branch-Minnesott Beach and along the Currituck run are temporarily suspended. Operations in Currituck are expected to resume normal operations Friday, weather permitting. Operations at Cherry Branch will resume once water recedes.
DUPLIN COUNTY
HC Powers Road is closed due to water crossing roadway.
HYDE COUNTY
Numerous roads have large ponding. Travel extremely difficult in downpours as of 11am Thursday.
JONES COUNTY
Water was reported on portions of Highway 70 near the Dover exit. Also, two to three feet of water reported across Highway 17 from the Craven County line to 10-mile Fork Rd.
MARTIN COUNTY
Jones Road Road is closed due to a pipe being washed out because of heavy rain. You can travel on road up to crosspipe from either direction. For detour: use SR 1510 Reason road, SR 1517 Duggins Road and SR 1518 Bell Town Road.
ONSLOW COUNTY
NC 210 on North Topsail Beach is closed due to high water. They are detouring traffic around city streets. It may be Saturday before it is open again. Gibson Bridge Road is closed at an unpaved portion that goes into Jones County (Belgrade area) due to high water. Officials hope it will open back up tomorrow. NC 24 east of Jacksonville has an outside lane closed between Queens Creek Rd. & Hammock Beach Rd. on the eastbound side. NC 24 in both directions near Old Hammock Rd and Main St. Extension has 2 of 4 lanes closed. A sinkhole has forced the closure of a portion of Shell Rock Landing Road in southern Onslow County. Vandergrift Drive is closed from Old Maple Hurst (SR1130) to Chatman Court(SR1149) due to high water on roadway. Gum Branch Road has had some lanes narrowed with flooding. Grants Creek Drive is closed North of East Davis Road (SR 1424) going towards Old 30 Road (SR 1423) due to flooding. Harbord Street is closed due to flooding. Boyington Road is closed due to flooding. Carlson Drive closed due to flooding. Walton Road closed due to flooding. Daly Street closed due to flooding. Lanes are narrowed on White Oaks River Road. Lanes are narrowed on Stella Road.

PITT COUNTY
Emergency Services Director Noel Lee reporting numerous motor vehicle accidents but says they are occurring as it does when it rains. Currently they are monitoring runoff and conditions. Lee is saying we’re looking at a lot of rain and the ground’s not absorbing and the ditches can’t take care of the amount of rainfall. But the situation is not that bad in Pitt County.
According to Pitt Co. NCDOT Jeff Cabaniss: Roads closed: Worthington Road, Charles Boulevard at the railroad tracks, College is closed and 14th is closed. Evans Street is now closed between 14th and Arlington Blvd. Police dept on scene at Evans to slow people down. Hwy 903 North, east of Bethel near Beargrass Rd. is closed due to flooding. Oakley Road, east of Bethel is closed because of flooding, take SR 1517 to NC30 to SR 1514 to SR 1500 to SR 1517 approximately 5.0 miles. Black Jack-Grimeland Road is closed due to high water in curve.
DOT: Don’t drive through standing water because there may be problems under the water!
