Onslow County is one of the hardest hit areas from Ida’s remnants. At one point about ten streets were either partially or completely closed in Onslow County.

Most of the roads are back open now.

Except two.

NC-210 at North Topsail Beach and the portion of the road that's on the island is closed due to high water.

Crews are detouring traffic around city streets.

NCDOT District Engineer Robert Vause says they've also closed Gibson Bridge Road, which goes into the Belgrade area of Jones County due to high water.

They hope to open Gibson Bridge Road back up tomorrow.

In the meantime, people in Onslow County say they're just grateful the situation isn't worse.
Remnants of Ida did a number on yards.

When Julio Felix walked out of his house this morning, he thought, “That it was worse than we thought. We have little rain but eventually it starts getting out of hand. We say whoa it's getting bad."

But Felix says he's relieved to see the conditions improving. Water is flowing where it's supposed to now. Yesterday it wasn't.

"There was water all over even in my area. Over there there's water from this ditch meeting water on the other side so that tells you how bad it is. So if you're driving and you're going too fast that spells trouble," said Felix.

Daly Street off of Piney Green Road was one of the many closed today due to high water.

And the water washed out a portion of Shell Rock Landing Road in the southern part of the county keeping a lane closed.

DOT crews temporarily fixed the road so drivers can travel it easily now.

Meanwhile, back in Jacksonville, Julio Felix may be looking forward to sunshine, but not what the water left behind in his yard.

"It means that the frogs living in that area are going to be really happy, but we're not going to be happy, because it grows so fast and you have to clean it up again," said Felix.

DOT says they hope to have NC-210 back open by Saturday.

Iin the meantime, drivers will have to take a short detour to get around.

The DOT reminds folks in this area if you see any problems don't hesitate to report it. The number to call is 910-455-3777.
