A dry and tranquil weekend ahead after a still-stormy Friday.
RAIN DETAILS: Friday will feature scattered light showers and drizzle, but most areas will have additional rain amounts of less than 0.25". Eastern North Carolina has been drenched with rain since Tuesday as the moisture and energy from Hurricane Ida transformed into a powerful non-tropical low pressure system off our coast. CLICK HERE for a list of eastern North Carolina RAIN TOTALS since Tuesday. They are impressive!
WIND AND COASTAL ISSUES: The pressure differential between a high pressure system over New England and the Nor'easter (low pressure system) off our coast will cause strong north winds to blow through Friday. Expect northerly winds of 15 - 25mph with gusts over 30 or 35 still possible. CLICK HERE to view PEAK WIND GUST REPORTS from the storm. Sporadic power outages are still possible as a few trees may lose limbs. In extreme cases, wind may uproot trees given the extremely wet soil. As is typical in Nor'easters, our beaches will experience erosion, tidal flooding and Highway 12 overwash especially around high tides. For more Outer Banks TIDE INFORMATION, CLICK HERE.
ENJOY THE WEEKEND! A high pressure system will build into eastern North Carolina on the back side of the departing Nor'easter. Expect much less wind and partly sunny skies Saturday with highs in the low to mid 60s. For sunny, skies will become mostly sunny with highs in the upper 60s and lower 70s!
