RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - Lawyers for a disgraced former North Carolina legislator have gone back to court seeking to overturn his conviction for obstruction of justice.
The News & Observer of Raleigh reported Tuesday that a lawyer for former Rep. Thomas Wright told a three-judge state Court of Appeals panel his guilty verdict last year was not supported by law.
Wright is appealing his obstruction conviction and sentence of up to eight months. Investigators say the Wilmington Democrat failed to report $150,000 in campaign donations and kept most of it for himself.
The appeals court earlier this month upheld Wright's conviction on three felony counts of obtaining property under false pretenses. Wright is serving six to eight years for those convictions.
