A Romanian man got stuck as he apparently tried to break into a supermarket through a small window in the town of Almancil in southern Portugal during the early hours of Sunday (November 15).
The alleged thief was trapped halfway through the window and as he wriggled to free himself his trousers fell off, leaving him showing his underwear to the world for some 11 hours.
The owner of the supermarket found the trapped man when he arrived for work.
"The sales ladies told me: Mr.Antonio there is a man in there, when they told me he was in the basement the first thing I did was close the door so he would not leave. When I came outside, as I knew there was that little window, I found this spectacle, an individual halfway through the wall with his pants down, half undressed," said Antonio Oliveira.
The fire brigade spent two hours working to release the slim 22-year-old Romanian man as locals gathered to laugh at the spectacle.
"Half in, half out, the poor guy wanted to move and couldn't, and without trousers. The things people do!'' said one unidentified Almancil resident.
"He lost the support on the inside and also on the outside because he could hardly touch the floor with the tips of his toes. He had his bottom out, it really was a bad day for him," Oliveira said.
Once freed, the man was taken into police custody.
