The Department of Defense is concerned about the number of soldier suicides this year.

As of yesterday, 140 active-duty soldiers and 71 troops in the reserves have taken their own lives this year.

That surpasses the 140 army suicides last year.

Almost one-third of this year's suicides occurred in January and February.

The Army says it has launched several programs to help combat these statistics, but above all, they say leadership intervention is the biggest help in preventing suicides.
