LONDON (AP) - British police say they have made the first two European arrests connected to the spread of a data-thieving electronic virus thought to have infected tens of thousands of computers worldwide.
Scotland Yard's Central e-Crime Unit says the two suspects involved in spread of the virus known as 'Zbot' or 'ZeuS' were arrested Nov. 3 in the northern England city of Manchester.
Police said Wednesday that the two were later released on bail.
The virus is a "Trojan," a name applied to innocuous-looking but malicious programs which can be used to harvest personal data such as online bank account details and passwords.
Security firm Sophos PLC has called Zbot "one of the most notorious pieces of malware of recent times."
