So what should you be on the lookout for? In this consumer alert 9OYS explains why references could save you money and the headache of repair costs.
Martin County Commissioner Tommy Bowen says on Monday, a man with a team of four workers came to the Bowen Bros. mobile park off Tyner Road in Martin County.
Bowen says the man claimed he was an expert at sealing mobile home roof's--using a special sealant to help with renters energy bills. It also came with an 8-year warranty.
On Tuesday, the Bowen brothers put a stop on the $600 check that was intended for the job's boss: Tom Carroll.
"My brother saw the bad work,” Tommy Bowen said. “So he called the bank and stopped the payment on the check--but in the meantime the guy come--got his crew up real quick and left...we don't know what it is, we don't know what he put up there. It's all run back on the ground."
The Bowen brothers filed a complaint with the Martin County Sheriff's Office and to see if any other mobile home parks experienced the bad business.
As of yet, Sheriff Dan Gibb's says it's an isolated incident, but references on hundred dollar jobs are vital someone still left to clean up the mess.
9OYS attempted to contact Tom Carroll, he has yet to return our calls. His business card says he operates out of Augusta, South Carolina.
