Three of four patients diagnosed with a drug-resistant strain of the H1N1 virus at Duke Hospital have died.
Their deaths happened in October and November. This strain of H1N1 was resistant to the drug Tamiful. The patients had other, serious medical conditions, so it’s not clear if the flu is the cause of their deaths. Officials with Duke and the CDC are trying to determine if there are any connections between the patients.
They say these recent cases should be a reminder for people in the high risk categories to get vaccinated.
