The unemployment rate in our state keeps climbing. Slightly to 11%t in October. It is the ninth straight month in double digits. September's rate was 10.8%.
North Carolina's unemployment rate has been worse than the national average for more than a year.
This highlights landing a job. For starters, getting a job interview is step one, and more employment agencies are working to get jobseekers ready to conquer the job interview..
Constant layoffs and being rejected interview after interview is an emotional roller-coaster for even the most qualified jobseeker. And it even has the governor sounding the alarm, "This is going to be a very long recovery--it's not going to happen overnight,” said Gov. Bev Perdue.
And employment consultants like Kenneth Angeli, of Kelly Services in Greenville stressing the importance of your next interview.
"By the time you get the interview you're definitely qualified--so it's really what you do once you walk through that door to solidify the position,” Angeli said.
Which starts with knowing the company. While most people know the other fundamentals like arriving to the interview on show up on time, Greenville’s Kelly Services which consults 200 clients a week says people often fall short selling themselves.
Angeli adds, "Tell me about your past employment history---so have that in your head.”
There's no doubt with 11% unemployment---it's a job getting a job, but consultants say prepare now--or you'll pay later.
