They're women looking to make the world brighter for other women in the east. The Pitt County group, Women for Women, held its annual membership coffee. Today's meeting focused on which community groups and organizations would receive grant money to support scholarships and events for women, teenagers and young girls. The group will provide $60,000 for 12 women's programs this year. Members say people are still willing to give despite the economy.
"With these economic times, these nonprofit agencies are struggling more and more because their giving is down. And so we have been so fortunate with our membership and their generosity that we in turn have been able to give that money back out into the community," Vonda Robinson, Vice Chairman for the Women for Women Advisory Board, said.
The group also announced who next year's Power of the Purse speaker will be. It will be Sarah Ferguson, the duchess of York. Registration is open for the event on May 5th.
