The Onslow County Sheriff's Office tells Nine On Your Side that they've taken a man into custody in an 8 county crime spree.
It happened October 14th in Jacksonville.
Authorities say they tracked down Thomas D. Ruckman at a convenience store at the intersection of Gum Branch Road and Western Boulevard. It's believed Ruckman has broken into over 300 homes over a year and a half period in Onslow, Pender, Craven, Jones, Duplin, Brunswick, Carteret and New Hanover counties. In just Onslow County alone that amounts to $125,000 in property loss in over 100 homes.
Ruckman is accused of taking mainly gold jewelry. In fact, authorities say they made contact with one of the gold brokers Ruckman dealt with. The broker says he paid Ruckman more than $20,000 for gold in just the last two months.
Ruckman is charged with over 150 charges of Breaking and Entering, Possession of Stolen Property, Obtaining Property by False Pretense, and Conspiracy and Child Abuse. He's under a $425,000 bond.
The investigation is ongoing and other arrests are expected.
