New Bern Police tell Nine On Your Side that they arrested a man late Sunday evening for entering an apartment and demanding money from the occupants at gunpoint.
It happened at a Craven Terrace apartment in New Bern.
Authorities say Romel Jermaine King of New Bern tried to flee from officers after the apartment's resdient warned them that he was armed. During a struggle with officers, King's gun fell to the ground and officers found marijuana in his back pocket.
The resident of the Craven Terrace apartment officers responded to told officers that King came into the apartment brandishing a gun and demanded his and another man's wallets and money. King reportedly hit the other man in the apartment over the head with the gun. That man was taken to Carolina East Medical Center for treatment.
King is charged with Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon, Assault with Deadly Weapon Inflicting Serious Injury, Resist/Obstruct and Delay, Carrying a Concealed Weapon, Assault on a Government Official, Communicating Threats, Second Degree Trespass, Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, Possession of a Controlled Substance and Assault by Pointing a Gun.
He's in the Craven County jail under a $200,000 bond.
