Craven County deputies say they have a murderer in custody.
Deputies say Anthony Wright attacked a 94-year-old woman and killed her grandson.
Paramedics say they found the woman after she managed to get out of her home around 11:30 Tuesday morning.
The victims knew the suspect.
It didn't take deputies long to realize something went terribly wrong here.
They found 94-year-old Mary Bennett the victim of an assault and her grandson 49-year-old Daniel Winston dead inside.
Charles Britt watched Monday Night Football at home with Winston, his stepson, only hours earlier.
"I feel terrible,” said Charles Britt, Daniel Winston’s stepfather. “I feel terrible about it. Honesty, I do cause he wouldn't hurt nobody."
This is the man investigators are calling a killer: Anthony Wright.
Britt called him tony and says he lived next door, but often spent the night at Bennett's house.
"My mother-in-law would give you the clothes off of her back,” Britt said. “She took him in. Why he did this I don't know. Nobody knows."
Britt says all he wants his justice.
He spent Tuesday night planning a funeral and helping his wife cleanup her son's blood.
At last report, Mary Bennett is in fair condition at Pitt County Memorial Hospital.
Deputies say Daniel Winston was either stabbed or shot to death.
That will be determined by the autopsy.

A man is dead and his 94 year old grandmother is fighting for her life tonight after a shooting in Craven County.
It happened around 11:30 this morning.
49 year old Daniel Winston has been pronounced dead.
His grandmother Mary Bennet is in fair condition at PCMH.
Deputies say she was assaulted.
Deputies are waiting on autopsy results to find out if Winston was stabbed or shot.
They believe he was shot.
The Craven County Sheriff's Office has arrested a suspect, Anthony Wright.
He's charged with an open count of murder.
