RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - The ex-treasurer of former North Carolina Gov. Mike Easley's campaign says the governor once "expressed confidence" in a political ally who gave damaging testimony against Easley at an elections hearing.
Dave Horne testified before the State Board of Elections on Tuesday about how Easley's campaign had worked for most of this decade. Horne told board Chairman Larry Leake that Easley had positive things to say about McQueen Campbell.
Campbell testified Monday that Easley suggested that Campbell file invoices on unreported airplane flights he gave to Easley to pay for some home repairs Campbell took care of on the governor's home.
Horne also answered several questions about the Easley campaign's fundraising, particularly how the $11,000 in invoices were paid.
