Jones County Sheriff John Hall says one of his deputies shot one of the 3 dogs that attacked 55-year-old Gladys Roberts over the weekend. The other two are still out there.
It all started with a frantic 911 call. But the frantic voices on a 911 call don't even begin to explain how badly Gladys Roberts was hurt. She was on her way home from her mother's house when three pit bulls attacked her.
Olethia Britt says, "The dogs took her skin from here and down back of her neck is what the doctors said. All her skin on her head is off, off!"
As Roberts fights to live, her mother tries to stay strong. She says, "I told her to fight, don't give up, the Lord is with you the Lord is a good God, fight."
But she can't hide her anger. She says, "So mad, if I could, I'd take a stick and beat them in the head."
Britt wants to see justice. She says, "Somebody knows who the dogs is but they not talking, because they know they suppose to be in a place and that the Lord gonna get them. They need to kill them” {the dogs}.
…For her daughter and the rest of the community.
Her mother says Roberts has already received 18 pints of blood. Sheriff Hall says the dogs may have belonged to someone who recently died and if he finds the people responsible for them now, they may face charges. If you spot the tan pit bulls call the sheriff's office at 252 448 2561.
