The top U.S. commander in Afghanistan may get extra troops sent there, just not the number he was looking for.
U.S. officials say President Obama is considering sending a large number of additional forces to Afghanistan next year.
But the number, which still hasn't been determined, will likely be fewer than the 40 thousand the commander had requested.
