Last week authorities in the east had the task of investigating two carjackings. While the first on Tuesday happened at night, the latest incident happened in broad day Friday afternoon.
The suspect is still at large. But thanks to the quick thinking and bravery of the 75-year-old held at gunpoint, one family is safe together.
It started innocently enough when 75-year-old Violet Bartley a restaurant off Highway 64E in Plymouth on Friday afternoon. But when she got to her car, a man with a gun told her to get inside.
She says other cars in the parking lot kept anyone else at the strip mall from seeing what was happening. The gunman told her to move over to the passenger seat and hand him the car keys.
He put the car in drive and took off with Bartley, she says her only option was a split second escape.
"I said you might take my car--but you ain't taking me and I jumped out,” Bartley said. "I wouldn't ever give up. Because you've lost if you give up--you're already lost the battle--if you continue and try to do what you think is right to be safe you may have a chance."
Bartley described the gunman to police as a young man in his 20’s--between 5’7’’ & 5’8’’. Wearing dark clothing.
She's still puzzled by the incident because the gunman didn't take her purse or demand money. All he wanted was her car and possibly her life.

The suspect is driving a 2003 white Cadillac Deville license plate YPY 4290.
